Yinka Shonibare participated in Nigeria’s national pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale. In response to current debates on restitution, Shonibare’s work, *Monument to the Restitution of the Mind and Soul* (2024), explores and examines the 1897 Benin Expedition, which resulted in the looting of thousands of highly valuable spiritual and cultural artifacts from the Kingdom of Benin. In this work, a small percentage of the looted artifacts are recreated in clay and displayed on a pyramidal structure.
We assisted the artist´s studio in the creation of 3D models and visualizations of the work in its final location, to allow the artist to refine the details of the piece ahead of time.
