Madrid Art Déco

“Madrid Art Déco, 1925: The Style of a New Era” commemorates the centenary of the famous Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs held in Paris in 1925, widely regarded as the starting point of Art Deco.

 

The exhibition traces the mark that this style left in Madrid, through various manifestations of the visual culture of the time: architecture, graphic design, fashion, sports, travel… a city that was beginning to move to the rhythm of the new century.

 

Curated by Lydia García and Ángela Suau Gomila, and with exhibition design by Cariátide, the show is presented at Conde Duque, one of the most emblematic cultural spaces in the center of Madrid.

 

It offers a journey back to the 1920s and 1930s, when the city began to reimagine itself through a new lens of modernity: elegant, geometric, optimistic. A time when posters, cafés, Gran Vía’s shop windows, and cinemas like “Callao” began to speak a new visual language: that of Art Deco.

 

Rotondo contributed to the project with the graphic design of the exhibition. For this we were inspired by the graphics of the time, choosing a typography of clean lines and geometric shapes, close to the visual imagery of the 1920s, combined with collages of vintage photos. A nod to that spirit between luxury and the everyday, between industry and elegance, which defined an entire era.
